Hospice care is provided to terminally ill patients who have a limited life expectancy and wish to receive comfort care rather than treatment to cure the disease.

Hospice care is used to alleviate pain and suffering, and treat symptoms rather than to cure the illness. Services are directed toward the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the patient/family unit. Hospice services are aimed to maximize the patient’s comfort.

Medicare or Medi-Cal recipients are entitled to hospice care. Most medical insurances and health maintenance organizations offer hospice care as a benefit. Contact your insurance company or health maintenance organization to confirm that hospice care is a covered benefit under your policy.
